Regular cleaning and sealing extends the life of a fence many times over and will keep your fence looking great. It is important to choose the right cleaner, however, so you do not damage the wood. Most fencing experts recommend acid-based cleaners to power wash wooden fences. Using a proper cleaner will:
– Eliminate dirt
– Remove mold, mildew, and algae
– Open the pores of the wood
– Balance the pores of the wood, making for a better seal
After power washing your fence with a cleaner, it is important to rinse the fence with water. As the cleaner is acidic, it is generally a good idea not to leave the cleaner on the fence longer than 15 minutes. Do not rinse the fence to early though, as the cleaner needs time to work and soak into the wood’s pores.
