Three Grades of Western Red Cedar (WRC) Fence Pickets offered. In Dallas/Ft. Worth, Viking offers the following grades of pickets:
- 5/4” thick WRC picket – Smooth on 4 sides (the best picket on the market – bar none)
- This picket is available in 4, 6, 8 and 10 foot heights
- 3/4” thick WRC pickets (all rough sawn):
- #1 Grade – clear board, no knots (custom order only)
- #2 Grade – tight small knots, no-hole (builds a very good looking fence)
- #3 Grade – Economy/Builder’s grade, slightly larger knots (best value for tight budgets)
A thicker, stronger picket. Our pickets are thicker and better looking than what you’ll find at the big box stores and what most fence companies are now installing. All of our pickets are graded to strict industry standards consistent with the Western Lumber Association grading definitions. This Dallas, Tx fence project is located just south of downtown Dallas. The owners of this historical home chose Viking to install a full privacy 8 foot tall board-on-board fence which was stained to preserve the look of the cedar. The end result was a perfect fit for this home.

For the gate, the owners decided on a wood slide gate that gave the gate a consistent look matching the fence. This project is located in downtown Dallas, Tx.
This is a full privacy board-on-board wood fence in Fort Worth, Texas. The fence was built using our 1x6x6 #2 Western Red cedar pickets and transitions from being a 6 foot tall fence to a 4 foot tall fence. The top cap is 2x6 Western Red cedar and is trimmed out with our 1x2x8 cedar trim. Fence posts are adorned with decorative post caps to add a unique touch to this Fort Worth property.
This is a 8 foot tall wood fence built in Dallas, Tx using our 1x6x8 #2 Western Red Cedar pickets with four 2x4 cedar rails on 2 3/8” Steel posts. The fence is trimmed with a 2x6 cedar top cap and a pressed spear ornamental iron walk connects the back yard to the front yard. Additionally, a 2x6 mud board was added at soil level, after being stained with our own Sherwin Williams stain.

The important characteristic about a #3 fence picket is that you will get the same functionality of a # 2 fence picket, with more aesthetic defects. You will see larger knots and some knotholes. But the price is great is you’re budget is tight.
This particular fence project involved a significant sloping backyard in East Dallas, Tx. The customer decided on a 4 rail, board-on-board, 8 foot tall fence, built on steel posts. This Dallas fence is adorned with a 2x6 top cap and trim.
